Split Action: Brookings Ocean & Rogue Bay Chinook
Lately, our Gold Beach fishing charters have been splitting time between guiding the legendary Rogue River Bay and running ocean trips. Following reports of stellar ocean action over the last two days, we headed down to Brookings for a charter.
While it wasn’t quite “lights out” with lots of early limits like we saw earlier in the week, the action was still solid. Fishing with an awesome group of four anglers, we hooked seven hard-fighting ocean Chinook and successfully landed five of them (those mandatory barbless hooks always keep things exciting!).
Rogue River Salmon Fishing in Gold Beach is On the Rise
After a successful day on the ocean, we returned to the Port of Gold Beach’s immaculate cleaning stations to process our clients’ catch. We opted to head back to Gold Beach due to some recent health and olfactory concerns regarding the Chetco fish cleaning station.
Upon our arrival, we connected with several local anglers who reported good success trolling the bay. This sudden uptick in action is right on schedule! Mid-July is historically when Rogue River salmon fishing truly begins to explode as ocean-fresh King Salmon pool in the bay.
For the foreseeable future, we plan to focus our efforts right here in the Rogue Bay to target the spectacular fights and unparalleled table fare that Rogue Bay King Salmon are famous for.
